Acute Prescriptions

Acute prescriptions are generated when you consult with a GP. These are recorded on the practice clinical IT system and then electronically transmitted to the dispensary. You therefore do not receive a paper prescription at the end of a consultation. After your consultation with a GP please inform the dispensary reception that you are waiting for an acute prescription and then have a seat in the waiting room. You will be informed once your prescription has been dispensed. The dispensing process typically takes around 10 minutes. We stock the vast majority of commonly used medications. If we do not have an item in stock then you have the options of either taking a prescription to an outside pharmacy or waiting for us to order it through our suppliers - typically it should be available the following working day. Occasionally, for some less commonly prescribed items or "special orders", we have to source medication from national agencies and this may take longer.
