Repeat prescriptions are recorded on our clinical IT system and can be re-ordered as required. We do request that we are given a minimum of two full working days notice when ordering repeat prescriptions so that medication can be safely dispensed. In accordance with NHS guidance repeat prescriptions are, in general, issued as a one month supply. Repeat prescriptions can be ordered in the following ways:
All repeat prescribing is coordinated at Ancaster dispensary. For Caythorpe based patients, the medication is then delivered to Caythorpe each day.
As a service to patients, we provide a delivery service to those patients who are unable to collect medication from the practice. To enable us to work as efficiently as possible the practice is divided into a number of different routes which are colour coded. If you wish to have medication delivered, then please contact our dispensary manager so that the necessary arrangements can be put in place. Please see the section on “Delivery service” for further information.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Acute prescriptions are generated when you consult with a GP. These are recorded on the practice clinical IT system and then electronically transmitted to the dispensary. You therefore do not receive a paper prescription at the end of a consultation. After your consultation with a GP please inform the dispensary reception that you are waiting for an acute prescription and then have a seat in the waiting room. You will be informed once your prescription has been dispensed. The dispensing process typically takes around 10 minutes. We stock the vast majority of commonly used medications. If we do not have an item in stock then you have the options of either taking a prescription to an outside pharmacy or waiting for us to order it through our suppliers – typically it should be available the following working day. Occasionally, for some less commonly prescribed items or “special orders”, we have to source medication from national agencies and this may take longer.
