Autumn 2025 Covid Vaccine Eligibility:
Posted on September 4th, 2025
We are currently receiving a high volume of calls regarding whether patients are eligible for covid vaccinations this Autumn. Hopefully the information below will help to answer some of these.
The UK vaccinations committee has recommended that those eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in Autumn 2025 are:
⦁ adults aged 75 years and over
⦁ residents in a care home for older adults
⦁ individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed
People are considered immunosuppressed if their immune system is weaker than normal, either because of an illness or the treatment they are receiving. This includes:
People having chemotherapy or high-dose radiotherapy.
People who have had an organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, or stem cell transplant.
People living with HIV at any stage.
People with certain cancers affecting the blood (like leukaemia, lymphoma, or myeloma).
People with inherited (genetic) problems with their immune system.
People taking medicines that weaken or change how the immune system works, such as:
Biologic drugs (e.g. anti-TNF, rituximab, alemtuzumab, ofatumumab).
Certain cancer drugs (like protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors).
Strong immune-suppressing medicines such as cyclophosphamide or mycophenolate.
People on steroid tablets (like prednisolone) at a fairly high dose (20mg or more per day for over a month).
People needing long-term immune-suppressing treatment for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, inflammatory bowel disease, scleroderma, or psoriasis.
