The practice has access to a wide variety of tests. Simple tests such as Blood tests and ECGs are performed by Health Care Assistants (HCA) who work within the nursing team.
Other tests such as X-Rays, Ultrasound scans, CT scans, MRI scans and DEXA scans are arranged through local hospitals.
To obtain your test results please put a request through on our askmyGP service or if unable to do this, please call reception. To avoid peak telephone times, please phone after 11am. Please note that the receptionists are unable to comment on the interpretation of the results but simply convey what information the doctor/nurse has attached to the results.
The practice has a strict confidentiality and data protection policy and we will only release test results to the person who has had the test unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data to others or they are not capable of understanding the results.
When you take your test you will be told approximately how long it will be before the results are returned to the practice.
Please ensure that the practice has your correct telephone numbers and let us know which of these is your preferred telephone number.
Results will usually be available within the following timescales:
Urine samples: 3-4 days
Blood tests: 2-3 days (but less common tests may take longer as they may have to be analysed at a regional laboratory
Swab tests and Stool samples: 3+ days
Ultrasound and X-Ray: Up to 4 weeks for urgent requests and 8 weeks for routine (due to Covid pandemic)
Please note it is your responsibility to contact us to check your results, either by telephone as above or by making an appointment to discuss them with your doctor or nurse if they have specifically asked you to do this. You will be advised at this stage whether any further action is needed.
